This is a stunning set of small nested bowls made from an urban Silver Maple tree. The Maple has Spalting in a way that I've never seen before which really makes these bowls stand out from the crowd. The price is for all 3 bowls.
If Spalting is left too long before the wood is processed it can cause soft spots in the wood. I used a wood hardener to stabilize and stiffen the spalting just to make sure there are no problems. The hardener penetrates and stiffens the wood fibers and then the bowl can be shaped and treated like any other bowl.
The large bowl measures 9-1/4" x 3".
The medium bowl measures 6-1/4" x 1-7/8".
The small bowl measures a cute little 4" x 3/4" tall.
You could use the large bowl for popcorn, salad for 2, mashed potatoes, or something similar.
The middle bowl could be used for your morning cereal, evening ice cream, nuts, candy, etc. The small bowl could hold your ring while you wash dishes, hold paper clips, or anything you need a small bowl for!
I finished the bowls with multiple coats of Danish Oil which is a very durable, food safe finish - much more so than Mineral Oil or Walnut Oil. To me quality is not just in how the bowl is made or what type of wood is used, quality also means using the best finish you can if you want your bowl to last and look good for years. Hand wash only, use and care instructions are provided.
