The Montepulciano varietal is indigenous of central Italy and is not to be confused with wines from the region or town with the same name. The bouquet is rich in rustic, forest-floor aromas. On the palate there are hints of Mayan chocolate, currants, and pepper with loads of dark fruit and minerality on the finish. Montepulciano is a rustic wine that exhibits strong aromas and flavors of oregano, pepper, smoky tobacco and black fruits like plums, boysenberries, and dark figs. This hearty sipper will cut through fatty meats like beef brisket, while pairing nicely alongside rich, roasted winter vegetables.
