His screenplay Shadows has recently been filmed by an independent production company. This is his third novel. An oral storyteller, Trent Kendrick was born in Moundridge Kansas to faithful members of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite (Holdeman Mennonite), His parents moved him to a conservative Iowa congregation in his youth where they lived a sheltered, structured life in a small church community. He joined the Holdeman church, but developed a worldly vision of its teachings and traditions as he engaged in its activities. His developing sexuality forced him to be someone he was not, and that confusion allowed him to see the reality of the church from inside its closet. Kendrick left his small community to embrace an even smaller Mennonite congregation, where he continued his pretense of being one of them, while discovering that he was not. He met another man, fell in love, and took advantage of the liberal atmosphere to embrace his forbidden love as it blossomed within the cage of family, religious, and social pressures. His struggle to find common ground between the church and his passions gave him a perspective on both as he was driven by the church into an arranged marriage. A humorist and storyteller, Kendrick uses the lessons learned from his experiences to entertain and educate.
