THE 1981 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, THE CLEMSON TIGERS
On January 1, 1982, the #1 ranked Clemson Tigers defeated the traditional powerhouse #4 Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Orange Bowl to become the undisputed National Champions. Clemson, led by Coach Danny Ford, fought hard against a strong Nebraska squad. Although Nebraska featured several future NFL stars, including Roger Craig, Irving Fryar, Mike Rozier, and Dave Rimington, eight of the Cornhusker's twelve possessions ended in a three and out, and the Tiger defense only allowed the Cornhuskers beyond the fifty yard line four times. Depicted in this Rick Rush hand-pressed serigraph is #7 Craig Austin, who led Clemson in rushing touchdowns, as he takes the ball on an end sweep from #3 Homer Jordan and runs untouched into the end zone. The final score was 22-15.
