One of the greatest names in the history of art is Marc Chagall. Born in old Czarist Russia in 1887, he lived to the ripe old age of 98. His passing came in his adopted home in Paris. Chagall's story begins with the Primitivist Movement of the turn of the century. He moved to Paris in 1910, where he studied the masters Cezanne, Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. Drawn to the excitement of the Russian Revolution, he returned to Russia in 1914 and founded the Constructionist School in 1917. After two years of intense controversy and artistic conflict, Chagall returned to a dreamy fairy tale art form that is the modern forerunner of Traditional Surrealism.
